Distinctive Indie Rock
With high energy tunes and creative tempo changes, Indie Rock might best describe Ivory Drive’s music, but their sound isn’t easily pigeonholed. Ivory Drive’s five musicians combine on piano, organ, drums, bass, trumpet, and sax to produce songs that are fresh and original with an audience pleasing variety. Unusually complex for “rock” music, their songs are peppered with generous amounts of jazz, folk, blues, world, and even classical.
Ivory Drive’s highly anticipated full-length debut album, From This Far, propels its listeners through high energy, danceable tunes punctuated by moments of brooding sentiment. Recorded at Wave Stable Studios in Aurora, CO, and mastered at Airshow Mastering in Boulder, CO, From This Far’s 13 original tracks culminate two years of songwriting, recording, and production. It is available on iTunes and Amazon.com.
Ivory Drive has been warmly received at their live shows in the Denver and Boulder area. Venues they’ve played have included the Glen Miller Ballroom and The Rock N Soul in Boulder, Quixote’s, The Climax, and the Oriental Theater in Denver. The band has a busy fall and winter show schedule for many Colorado venues.
Most recently, Ivory Drive had a remarkably successful debut on thesixtyone.com, a web site where thousands of listeners discover the best new music using a democratic voting system. Ivory Drive’s first song released on the site, “Breath of the Victory March,” quickly racked up enough votes to be placed on the coveted “home page” and “hot right now” list. Their songs continue to place in the “top songs” on the site, and receive many glowing comments from new-found fans who love the band’s unique sound.
This kind of reaction confirms that this is a band to watch. Their music uniformly receives descriptions such as “moving,” “lyrical,” “exceptional”, and of course “unique.” Another thing out of the ordinary about Ivory Drive is their universal appeal - people of all age groups and musical tastes enjoy their music.
Ivory Drive was started in Boulder, Colorado in the fall of 2007 and includes: Van Wampler on keyboards and vocals, Wes Barton on drums, Sean Whissen on bass, and Geoff Boux on saxophone. They began playing in local venues, and recorded an EP in the spring of 2008. In the fall of 2008 trumpet player Colton Crandell joined the band. Together, the band members are committed to taking Ivory Drive to the top.
The band is currently available for booking in the Colorado region, and is seeking other performance opportunities.
